Quick Observation
Made our way up burstall pass with the intent of skiing snow peak but skiing conditions in the higher alpine were less than ideal. We turned around at ~2500m. Snowpack as a whole felt really stable and we didn't see anything indicating instability on our way up. Surface snow above 2300m was pretty variable with a mix of wind affect and firm crust, with some looser wind deposits mixed in. Skiing was okay but not grear. Between 2100-2300m the surface snow was pretty consistently faceted and actually skied pretty well in more sheltered areas. Below 2100m we saw lots of surface hoar. Weather was around -16 at the car warming to -11 or so throughout the day. Winds were calm in the morning, but started to pick up after noon. It also snowed very lightly throughout the morning with maybe an inch of accumulation at the parking lot.
