We did a small tour today at the Blue Mountain Ski Area in the Abajos. We dug a pit at 8800 feet in a sheltered area right above the old lift shack. We saw a relatively cohesive snowpack structure above the facet layer. The 30+ cm of facests are still present at the base. We did several stability tests, ECT - ECTX and Shovel Shear - STH @ 36cm right where the facet layer interface with the new snow.
We found good skiing on the E-NE aspects and enjoyed the new snow on low angle terrain. We stayed in sheltered terrain below 10,000' and did not observe any signs of instability when skinning or skiing.
