Quick report
We headed to the west side of the Flathead Range with hopes of a more direct approach to upper elevations.
- We walked on dirt to 5500 feet. Snow went from wet and patchy to consistent coverage and refrozen at 6400.
- The snowpack at 7,000 was homogeneous and supportable. We did not find any wind slabs or even enough loose snow to be transported very easily.
- Rain started falling at 1:00 and it transitioned from snow to rain at around 6,600 feet.
