Red Flags
Poor Snowpack Structure

Pit at 9,100 feet, 28 degrees, NE facing. Same location as three weeks ago, now with less total depth of sugar to the ground (30 cm today, 48 cm in Feb) and less total depth of snowpack (115 cm today, 125 cm in Feb). ECT 23, on the sugar layer. Also a very clear ice crust layer about 20 cm down, under this storm's fresh snow. Found the crust today on E and NE, yesterday on W and NW. Seems pretty widespread after last week's sun and heat.

East and NE faces skied well, no breakable crust, heard no whoomphs, saw no cracking. Video shows the soft top 20 cm and then the very loud, clearly visible ice crust layer.
