Quick report
Today we went poking around WMR sidecountry trying to find a pattern to recent human-triggered avalanches.
- Observed 4 rider triggered avalanches.
- These all failed above 5880 ft with no pattern to aspect. Observed avalanches on SW, E, S, and N aspects.
- Avalanches ranged in size from D1-D2.
- We did 2 crown profiles.
- The avalanche that failed on an east aspect failed on a sugary layer of facets above a crust. The crown depth averaged 16-18 inches.
- The avalanche that failed on a north aspect failed on a precipitation particle. The crown of this avalanche was more obscured by recent tracks and recent snow. Crown appeared 8-10 inches thick.
Two different flavors of avalanche problems out there. One will be quick to heal and the other will likely take some time. We traveled conservatively given the numerous rider-triggered avalanches in the past 24 hours.
No signs of instability today except for seeing crowns of human-triggered avalanches from past 2 days.Weather
