Headed to Jewel to see if the inch of SWE reported on the Snotel was accurate. An inch seemed a bit optimistic as general new snow depth near Camp Misery in the morning was 4-6 inches of dry snow. Underlying crust pencil hard. Summited Radio Ridge just as west winds and clouds moved in, followed by moderate snow the rest of the day. The recent NE winds had stripped the upper east faces of all new snow, leaving bulletproof entrances and interesting ridge top sculptures. Lower faces and all terrain down to Black Lake had 4-6 inches new snow on the crust. Decent skiing but still bottoming out. Surface sluffing but new snow bonded well to crust. Upper SW slopes held the deepest snow, loaded from the recent NE winds. Snowed all afternoon with strong ridge top winds out of the west. Each run got a little better and sleds had 2 inches on them by 3 pm.
