Quick report

We went to the Link Mtn weather station to troubleshoot a malfunctioning precip sensor. This sensor appears to be back online and working.

  • We observed no signs of instability.
  • Found very isolated and unreactive slabs of wind-drifted snow.
  • Surface conditions are weak!
    • Sheltered terrain at middle and upper elevations is heavily faceted and sugary.
    • Windward aspects have a thin and breakable wind-crust atop large faceted grains. Did not travel on solar aspects.

The surface is ripe for a persistent slab avalanche problem once a slab builds. For the time being, we found good and stable conditions. Terrain sheltered from the wind holds softer and better riding.
