- <p>It does not appear that our persistent weak layer problem is going anywhere fast. Collapsing and cracking in the snowpack are being less observed as the slab relaxes and the weak layer adjusts to the snow above. I am still getting results in my snow stability tests with poor structure evident. And, most importantly we are still seeing avalanches. That's all we really need to know to continue to avoid avalanche terrain W-SE facing. Discipline. It is important that new users not get lured out into the terrain where the PWL lives just because others are doing it. Let's all make our decisions objectively out there and not on emotion.</p>
The snow surface composed of small surface hoar crystals that were breaking down in the sun, and a mix of decomposing fragments and small-grained near surface facets.
