Paulina Peak

Moral of the story- snow is scarce, thin, and crusty! Biggest dangers were icey trails and low tide conditions. 

I rode my bike in from 10 mile snopark to the Paulina Peak Trailhead. I first encoutered snow on the road above the lake at 6500ft. I walked on dirt and scattered snow patches until consistent snow coverage  of between 1 and 10 cm began at 7400ft. At 7800 ft, exposued areas scoured down to the ground and protected areas snow depths ranged from 5-20cm. The surface of the snow is a 2cm thick melt freeze crust with a mixture of sugary facets, crusts, and other snow particles below. 

There is not enough snow yet for avalanche activity, however it is interesting to note that the patchy snow we do have is quite sugary and faceted under a crust which has the potential to create future weak layers.
