Quick report

Cracking
Observed

10+ inches of snowfall in the past 24hrs. Intermittent wind-loading of the bowl throughout our tour. Shooting cracks observed near ridgelines on leeward slopes. At the time of the avalanche, most of the open pitches in the bowl had been skied out. The zone where the avalanche was triggered was the largest swath of untouched powder remaining in the bowl.

Avalanche

Approximately 1410 on 11/18/24 we observed two skiers dropping into Tumalo bowl in between the center rocky outcroppings. Skier 1 triggered a small avalanche with minimal slough. Skier 2 dropped in further skiers right of skier 1. Skier 2 triggered a larger release on a convexity. Skier 2 was caught and carried by avalanche debris. Deposition zone extended to the trees at the bottom of the bowl. Skier 2 did not require extrication assistance. Skier 2 was ambulatory after the event and in communication with their crew. It appeared that skier 2 lost a ski. Skier 2 did not appear to have sustained significant injuries.
