Quick report

Nice day to be out. Santiam Pass is in pretty poor condition. Hard crusts all around, even on northerly aspects. Largest hazard is the icy ski surface. No evidence anywhere of recent slides or instability. At least the sun was out and the views were good. The entire snowpack is rock hard. Cold nights and low sun angles are keeping solar aspects safe. North aspects are hiding little to no stashes of soft snow.

Snowpack

Solid. Did not dig a pit. Profiles with a SnowScope (I have developed moderate to high confidence in these profiles after years of co-located profiles and regular pits) showed a crust 25cm down, a bit of soft under that, and then firm to the ground. This concurs with pits dug a week ago in the same location.
