Quick report
Our goals today were to monitor faceting near treeline both at the surface and around the 1/1 crust.
We walked on dry ground up the Sherwins bootpack. We dropped in to Mammoth Rock bowl and dug 100 feet below the ridgeline. Surface conditions were the familiar mix of wind board, melt-freeze crusts, near-surface facets, sastrugi, and dry ground.
Coverage is still sufficient throughout the lakes basin, with the exception of the most solar and windward slopes.
Regarding our goals, the faceting continues. With a glimmer of hope for snow in the five-day window, its a good time to start paying attention to surface conditions in your favorite zones and to consider what any new snow may interface with.

Clear and warm. Mostly calm with light NE breezes at the ridges.
Snowpack
We dug at 9600 feet on a north aspect
- HS: 180 to 240 cm
- Surface NSF and windboard
- 1/1 crust down 130cm
- Dense wind pack from 1F to K in the top 1m
- ECTX targeting 1/1 crust
- Hard shovel shear revealed 2mm facets on top of 1/1crust
