Significant winds today. Clear loading on north facing aspects. We went out with the intention to look at the snow pack ahead of this next storm cycle. We found a spot facing NE that was sheltered and did not have any wind slab present. We could clearly see the buried surface hoar layer at 67cm. We performed both a CT ( CT13 ) and an ECT ( ECTN 13 ), both failing at that layer of buried surface hoar.
Our consensus was that the wind slabs were easy to find today and avoid, but once buried it will create tricky terrain managment going forward.
