Cross Hill

Definitely still low tide conditions out there, so our tour was modest, conservative and geared towards enjoying the sunshine, assessing height of snow and dusting off gear and legs for the long season ahead. Early season obstacles abound; ski accordingly. If you play your cards right, you can ski in Hatcher for up to 9 months! **But not if you dry dock on a boulder in October/November. As people venture further afield in the pass, please submit additional observations. HPAC will begin posting regular professional obs and forecasts beginning November 15.

Evidence of wind effect and small naturals dry loose and mid-storm soft slab avalanches from the 10/28-29 storm were observable on multiple aspects at higher elevations in steep terrain. Saw some ambitious Halloween go-getter's tracks up Microdot and Hatch, with better snow coverage off of the Hatch side of the Pass (see photo). Got up to the 4,000' contour on Cross Hill and found some pleasant early season turns on cold, dry snow from the recent storm.
