Quick outing up Trestle Creek to scout the conditions before the warm up and stretch the legs a bit. Toured around 5400 ft elevation in low-angle terrain. Day was overcast and precipitation began around noon. We dug a quick pit to ground to evaluate the snow pack. Roughly 75 cm total with about 35-40 cm of powdery snow from the recent storms over a distinct weak layer. Another crust layer was observed about 45 cm down and some sugary snow in the bottom 5-10 cm. Conducted two quick column tests and was surprised by the sudden collapse with easy loading. (CTE3 SCQ1). Both tests failed on the new snow/old snow interface and obvious cupped facets were observed at the break that were roughly 5-6 mm in size. Here is to hoping that this upcoming atmospheric river gives the snow pack a bit of a reset!
