Clear Creek

The Clear Creek climbing route is officially snow free and is ready for late summer/autumn climbers. Unique to this route as compared to others on Mount Shasta, is that climbers don't need to be concerned with snow travel and rockfall. While this route is great for beginners, don't fall prey to "casual day syndrome". This phenomenon can lead unsuspecting hikers to let their guard down and lead one off route and into steep, glaciated, and/or rock fall prone terrain. This time of year, climbers should be aware of weather hazards such as thunderstorms and building cloud cover that may lead to whiteout conditions. The days are getting shorter but with an early start time, there is still plenty of climbing to be had on this route.

The springs at Clear Creek are flowing with ample water for drinking. The springs form one of Mount Shasta's rare riparian habitats. With that, it is important to minimize our impact here by camping at least 200 feet from the water and avoid stepping on the plant life by traveling on durable surfaces.
