- Wind Loading, Poor Snowpack Structure
NNE aspect 8500 ft. Snowpack depth 88 cm. ECTN 12 @ approx 60 cm. ECTP 22 @ approx 5 cm. Photos show first failure with no propagation and then second failure at depth hoar near ground, with fracture running across the entire block. We need a lot more snow for that depth hoar to begin strengthening. Did not notice any cracking/collapsing on my tour or any recent avalanches on Ben Lomond/Cutler headwall, but visibility was just so so. My suggested danger rating is for 8600' and below only. Hopefully these next storms deliver, it is still very brushy up there.
