Type

avalanche

Coordinates

51.515320, -116.223580

Quick Observation

Since the storm started there has been over 60cm of snow deposited over the facets at high treeline/low alpine in the Hector South Ridge area on windward aspects, much more on lee (80+cm). Skiing downhill on low angle slopes proved to be a challenge due to lack of snow support but no way we were going on anything even remotely steep today.

Avalanche Information

Multiple remote triggered avalanches on lee slopes from 2400-2450m while walking along a corniced ridge. Cracks shooting out along cornices and into the lower slopes up to 100m away. Crowns ranging from 30cm to 100cm. Most started via a cornice collapses but some released with no overhead impact. Could not see how far they ran or how deep the debris was due to poor vis so going with size 2 due to crown sizes (possible 2.5s?).
