Quick report

Around 1030am our group departed tamarack lodge en route to ski the red cone trees. We traveled along an established skin track through the trees, stopping around treeline. We dug a pit on a N facing aspect, in a steep leeward pocket. We observed the layers mentioned in the forecast. A column easily failed at the depth hoar. Attempts to sidecut small rollovers above short steep bits didn't produce any whoompfing or significant cracking. We rode with space between us and kept an eye on one another within the trees on lower angle terrain, finding good snow in the shade. Lap two showed a small amount of windblown snow accumulating in our skin track, more towards the top of our track, where the trees were less protective of the wind. Overall impression, in my opinion there seems to be problems in the snowpack and weather that demand according terrain choices.
