Quick report
While touring up the south west side of Garfield Peak, we noted some freshly deposited wind slab 20cm thick on a melt freeze crust which showed limited signs of reactivity. Air temperatures stayed around freezing through the day but few clouds in the sky rendered a great deal of solar input during daylight hours. A test pit at 7,100’ rendered result displaying poor structure and bond between this newly slabbed up storm snow and the melt freeze crust below. Test did not result with any propagation at this interface and as the sun warmed the snow we enjoyed some springish turns in open glades on western aspects ranging from 25-35 degrees of inclination. Late in the afternoon we noted several small roller balls and a few small point release slides on solar aspects above 7,000’.
