Observation: Moab

We were a decent sized group. Skied the north gully off the saddle of Haystack. For the most part snow was pretty good and pole tests showed better than expected structure. Half the group skied about half way down and then started hiking back up. Other half continued down lower well below tree line and got into some steeper terrain in the trees. First skier skied to the bottom no problem. Second skier went to make their first turn and caused a 30 ft shooting crack right above their skis all the way to the third partner. There was no further activity and everyone traversed to lower angle slopes with no problem. But certainly poor structure even down lower on north facing terrain.
