Red Flags
Collapsing, Poor Snowpack Structure

We experienced a very large collapse while transitioning in the large, slightly south facing meadow between Little Water and Powder Park 1. This prompted us to dig two seperate snow pits where we observed a 110cm fist to 4 finger slab atop a melt/freeze crust, with 30cm's of basal facets beneath that. We suspect that the collapse we observed was on the basal weak layer. We thought this was notable to find on a South Facing slope at about 9,000', where we would not have expected to find a deep persistent weak layer.
