Quick report
Few to scattered cloud cover for the majority of the day on the east side of the Tetons. Surface conditions vary significantly based on aspect and elevation traveling from valley bottom to 11,000'. Most inclined slopes with a southerly tilt hold a 1-2" melt freeze crust with facets below. Shaded northerly aspects contain around 5" of weak facets. These were most developed in sheltered middle elevations whereas wind in upper elevations appeared to decompose the facets and limit development a bit. Also found various wind board in upper elevations above 9500'. There's no doubt these weak surfaces will create some poor interfaces as storm systems move into the area this week. My eye will be on those steep shaded aspects. Enjoy the stable snow and getting up high while it's reasonably stable. Lower angle northerlies and sheltered easterlies were riding real well.
Cleared the interval board at Surprise Meadows: 21" since Nov 17th.
Snowpack
Dug two pits: 8800' NE aspect ECTP27 down 24" on November drought layer (failed on 2-2.5mm facets, non-planar). 10,100' E aspect ECTX.
Did a lot of probing to get a gauage on snow depths: (7500-8500' 12-24") (8500-10,500' 32" average). Also probed to feel for November drought layer. N aspects felt significantly weaker overall (no surprise). E aspects were still fairly weak, and southerlies were least concerning. Slabs above these weak layers all appeared at least 1F hard.
