Glory - Powdercorn

The weather this morning was surprising as winds were stronger than expected and actively transporting enough snow that the Glory bootpack immediately refilled. Blowing snow was observed at ridgetops, predominantly loading west-facing slopes with some swirling and cross-loading happening. By late morning the winds subsided and eventually shifted to more of a west/northwest trajectory. No wind transported snow was observed after about 11am.

Snow surfaces above 9,000 ft were generally stripped or loaded by the wind with some sheltered pockets holding softer, unimpacted powder. Hand shears just below 10,000 ft yielded easy failures on the interface of the newer, consolidated snow and the older, fairly brittle crust from 3/21. This crust was quite a bit stouter below 9,000 ft.

Observed wind transported snow loading westerly slopes in the morning. Older cornices indicate that prevailing winds have recently loaded easterlies.
