Bullmoose - Holzworth Meadows

randy, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM
<p>Dug a pit while doing an AST1 field day with Summit Avalanche Consulting in the Bullmoose riding area. HS 180cm and foot penetration 60cm. Many different layers in the snowpack. Had some reaction in the first 25cm of new snow in the easy range. Mostly collapsing or whumpfing on several compression tests in the hard range we had sudden planer fractures 65cm down. Did extended column test and had the same results as compression test. Cold day at -20degrees and a light wind on a 27 degree southeast slope and overcast sky. Plenty of snow available for wind loading so be wary of wind loaded and convex slopes. Also be aware of the reactive layers that are deeper in the snow pack.
