We spent the day in the Coal Creek area where the morning started pretty mild with temperatures around -5 and light SW winds. In sheltered areas we found 30 cm of soft snow that has started to settle and consolidate over the Jan 24 surface hoar/facet layer that has been reactive recently. We found this layer in this area down 30 cm on a west facing slope at 1900 m elevation and had only resistant test results on it. The winds picked up and switched direction to the NE around 1:00 and the temperatures dropped and snow was on the move.
