Quick Observation

Amazing day in the Flatiron bowl. About 10-20 cm of powder on top of crust in the dense trees at the beginning of the ridge. Deep powder once we got out of the trees. The last third of the ridge before the Needle/Flatiron col was crusty, super strong E/NE winds have blown away any soft snow in that section. Snow became powdery again and slightly wind pressed on the way to Flatiron after the col. Did two laps from the lake down Needle Creek. Snow was amazing to ski in, slightly wind pressed just below and around the lake but much softer further down. Winds were strong and the surface of the snow was getting a little firmer when we headed back to the col at around 2 pm. Flatirons cornice is huge right now.

Weather

The sun tried to break through the clouds a few times in the morning, but by our second lap (around 2 pm) it was nowhere to be seen. Some areas had very strong winds, others had no wind at all. It was snowing consistently all day, and the wind was definitely transporting alot of snow, skin tracks were getting filled in quickly. Visibility was pretty bad at the lake and higher. Temp at Zopkios parking was -4 when we left at around 9 am, and 0 when we returned at about 4 pm.
