Today we went sledding at the Microwave after finding old avalanche debris blocking the trail up to Silvern Lakes. We saw no new avalanches. Sledding conditions on the wet slushy surface were actually surprisingly good. It rained periodically throughout the day, with moderate winds from the SW above treeline. We went as high as 1750m and did not find the top of the rain line. We dug on an East facing, sheltered slope at treeline to investigate the buried surface hoar. We did find this layer 30cm deep and were able to produce a moderate Compression Test (CT) result, but not a propagating Extended Column Test (ECT) result.
