Quick report
The parking situation at Tallac was intimidating but once past the gate, the crowds were not an issue. Coverage is going fast at the base but just enough snow remains to skin the normal ridge route to the top. Above about 8300' on shady slopes the snow remains cold and soft. Below that it was increasingly grippy and a bit of a challenge to navigate. Thin snow cover and emerging manzanita adds more challenge below about 7800.' I saw signs of previous wind scouring and previous wet loose activity, but I saw little evidence of either occurring prior to my noon departure. Looking back in Desolation Willdernness, coverage remains impressive.
