Quick report
Cool east winds won the battle over warm temps and sunshine at Red Lake Peak today. We tried to find midwinter corn on E/SE aspects, but the E winds began to pick up right as snow surfaces were softening in the sun , closing the window of opportunity.
We looked at near surface facets on cold slopes and found them to be weak and loose. Old wind textured snow that we expected to be firm was soft and sugary underneath. Afternoon gusts were strong enough to strip facets from the surface of windward slopes, but didn't appear to deposit them in regular patterns on leeward slopes.
