Quick report

A large serac (the size of 1-2 houses) cleaved from Deming glacier, causing a large avalanche at around 3pm while we were on the summit of Baker. The avalanche path crosses the classic climb/ski summit route (via heliotrope), under the Deming glacier overhang near Colfax Peak. We saw the aftermath on our way down, scanned a small part of the avalanche using our beacons, but did not receive any signals. Please reach out with any questions/next steps.

Avalanche

Large slab avalanche caused by serac fall from Deming glacier onto the classic heliotrope climbing trail.
