Quick report
The snow pack is very wet... Our recent high elevation rains coupled with last nights inversion, cloud cover, current low cloud ceiling mist and above average temperatures resulted in a very saturated and gooey snowpack. Despite the soggy snow, travel conditions were surprisingly pleasant and coverage is decent. We were able to identify rounding surface hoar buried 1.5-2" below the surface sitting on top of a crust at 7,800'. The snow surrounding this layer both above and below is wet. Snow conditions varied with elevation and the crust became less distinguished as we climbed. The top of Jakes was skiing with considerable friction and there were numerous areas with trees shedding and snowballs rolling contributing to deteriorating surface conditions. None of these snowballs were turning into pinwheels and increasing in mass. The lower half of Jakes where the crust was more developed skied with considerably less effort. Minimal instabilities encountered today. Despite what felt like fairly optimal conditions for wet slide activity we experienced none.
