Quick report
There is 1.5-2 feet of new snow at the Bivouac and 3 feet or more by the tree line. Above 5000' it is wind scoured with lots of rime ice. Today was mostly cloudy with temps in the 20's and winds 10-30 mph above 4800'. On steep south and east aspect slopes, above 4500', there was a firm wind slab 3-8" thick on top of the snow from this weekend's storm. That slab was very weakly bonded to the snow underneath. I stayed out of avalanche terrain today, but if I had been on the winter route with its big steep east and south aspects, this wind slab would have been a cause for concern. Due to difficult conditions and very cold temps, I did not go above 6500' today. The road to the Bivouac is currently impassible except in very high clearance off-road capable vehicles (not SUVs) but warmer temps and rain may make it do-able again by later this week.
