An okay day for a walk. Light winds gusting moderate from the SSW 210 degrees. 1 degree C at noon at 5000'. Very light snow flurries began at 11:35am at 5100' and became light snow an hour later. Skies were broken with valley fog and sunbreaks.
Snowpack
The discontinuous snow left in shaded areas is spring-like and isothermic: large melt form crystals, a roughly sun cupped surface, and mostly supportable though postholing is possible. We found an average of 70 cm or 27.5 inches of snow on a northern aspect at 5000'. Exposed southern aspects are mostly melted out up to ridgelines and peaks though shaded patches of snow persist. We observed no recent avalanche activity or signs of instability.
