Another calm, hot day with full sun
Snowpack
Superficial overnight freeze. Moist snow, unsupportive to boots on all aspects. Boot pen averaged 30cm, but was deeper in some places.
Southerly aspects have significant meltwater moving through the snowpack with some wet layers. Northerly aspects have seen little transition. Thin temperature crusts on the surface with dry to moist rounds and DFs in the upper snowpack.
We dug a profile at 5,280ft, SSE in Hollywood Bowl. Most notable was that we found meltwater 72cm below the surface and pooling on a thin weak layer above the 2/24 crust. Sudden test results (CTVH 34 (SC)) ↓72cm on wet melt forms. The top 10cm and the wetting front @72cm had both transitioned to large, wet melt forms.

Many wet (mostly loose) avalanches in the size D1-1.5 range on NE-S-NW, including. Size D2s on select slopes where the terrain is more capable of producing larger avalanches. A handful of larger rollerballs and small loose avalanches on northerly slopes with features (cornice, rock outcroppings, etc.) that catch the sun. Notable areas include: Chiwaukum Range SW-NW, White Pine Cirque, Mt Mastiff, Rock Mtn- E-S, Arrowhead, Nason Ridge Berne chutes, Diving Board and the highway chutes below Skyline Lake and Heather Ridge- SSW-SE, Windy Ridge incl the Wellington path (possibly a shallow D1.5 wet slab)- NE-SE.
