Quick report

IMSARU performed Avalanche Rescue Training (in a great zone for this practice). Found that even at lower elevation lower snowpack there is still some weakness in the snowpack. Observed a weak layer under shallow snowpack. No signs of instability.

Warm sunny day while the incoming storm brought more cloudcover throughout the day. Trace wind.

Snowpack

Surface has spring diurnal melt-freese behavior. 5-10cm down nighttime cold temps generate/protect a less cohesive layer. Crust, then another weaker layer. CTM17 5cm down. Q2-3 PC ETCN22 20cm down Q3 BRK/PC Column Test had the weak layer collapse over a few taps, tough to pull the thin crust layer off of it but definitely failure within that layer. ECT had similar collapse in the lower layer but did not propogate across the test column. 0-5cm- MF Surface Crust- 1f-P 5-10cm- FCxr Faceting Rounds- 4f-F More faceted than rounded 10-13cm- Crust MF- P 13-20cm- FCxr 4f More round than faceted 20-45cm- MF 1f Crust/MF/Rounds Composite 45-55cm- MF Warmer damper
