Quick report

Toured around the middle fork lake fork, idler creek, and south fork lake areas for the first time this season. Mostly skied in the 8500’-6500’ elevation range on W, NW, and N aspects. HS 210cm at 8000’ on a N aspect. Evidence of two relatively small wind slab avalanches on N/NE aspects, that seem to have been from most recent storm cycle or shortly after. Minimal warming in the area I traveled, some rollerballs but no significant wet slide activity. No obvious signs of instability. Snow was variable from wind board to sun crusts to wind deposited powder. Travel was challenging with open creeks, tree drip, thick sun crusts, and rocky chokes that I didn’t know existed. Worth bringing ski crampons and you may even find some corn on solar aspects of your time it right!
