We toured a few hundred feet up on west to north facing slopes to investigate the stability of the recent snow and any buried weak layers. The winds were gusty and transporting a lot of snow, filling in our pit as we worked. The snowfall increased during 1:30-4pm from trace/hr to 1cm/hr. Breaking trail was difficult but notably easier than yesterday in a similar location. There was not local cracking of the new snow with every step in the skin track like yesterday. We observed very local collapses (whumpfs). Our test results identified a few layers in the new snow, with no propagation. We saw propagation across the top of the Feb 10 rain crust, ECTP26. Downhill skiing was still not possible on the 15-20 degree slopes where we traveled, so we skied back down the skin track.
