Point 6

We skied Totality Bowl yesterday and figured out why it's called that with all of the eclipse media going on. We were unable to find a good location to dig a pit near the top due to lack of recent snow on the crust from recent wind. We did experience significant cracking as we descended and dug a pit in the bottom of the bowl. The pit turned out to be on top of a rock outcrop, with about 3' of snowpack on it. The pit had about 16 cm of new snow on the crust from the recent warm spell but the new snow varied from zero to about 30 cm across the terrain. The crust was not supportable and the snow underneath it was still very moist. Pit at 7200' east aspect ECTN 3 6 cm from the surface (this was a density change or graupel and likely what was cracking) ECTN 12 16 cm (on top of the crust) I found very weak snow or facets under the recent crust at approximately 20-25 cm depth, shown in the photos. The snow under the crust was still moist and it was unclear how it may bond when it refreezes. Snowing on and off hard, up to and inch or two an hour. Strong winds from the west were not affecting the east side below ridge top yesterday.
