Quick report

This observation was taken as part of an AIARE 1 course. We set out with the goal of digging an Avy pit and evaluating the storm slab problem. There was a good amount of snow and wind when we set out around noon, and the snow felt wetter than yesterday. We were noticing clumping snow and small roller balls off of our track. When we dug our pit, we saw a layer of slightly wetter snow on top of some powder. There was a very noticeable ice crust about 2/3 of the way down (we dug down about a meter). Column tests showed some shearing in the storm slab in the first foot, but it was pretty stable down at the ice layer.
