There I was, neck deep in pow, centre punching West Bowl, feeling like a rockstar… BAM! The truck hits another pothole and it’s January 2026. My blissful slumber has ended and my eyes open to the green and brown mountain mosaics of the Cain massif…. And we’re back for another field day, keep dreaming there slick.
In East bowl, the air temperature was 8.8 °C by 14:00. Our patience and slow pace on the skin track paid off. The top 20 cm had become slushy on direct sun facing slopes and there were decent spring turns to be had if you plan your lines carefully.
Anything not in direct sun was still hard as rock. The skin track was the most treacherous part of the day and the slide-for-life hazard is real at the moment. Unsurprisingly we saw no signs of avalanche activity.
Aggressive terrain in East bowl, as well as on the SW aspect of West Bowl, is painted with tracks. Skiing anywhere else probably won't leave a track! Great to see the community taking advantage of low hazard and beautiful weather.
