Little Girls

From the road at 2000 ft a stout refrozen rain saturated snowpack continued up to about 2600 ft where it began turning to shallow soft snow.  In this transition zone between 2600-3000  it showed a layering of dense storm snow and a thin crust where the rain line had briefly jumped up in elevation. Above 3000 ft it appeared that the precipitation had remained snow during the duration of the storm, but wind had redistributed the  top 12" of snow creating a slightly upside down storm slab. There is about 3-4 ft of snow from the last week of storms sitting on top of a stout knife hard wind board from December. The new snow appeared to be bonding well to the old interface with the wind board and no signs of instability were found within the new storm snow itself in this location. The wind board was too thick to dig through in this location, but is a major concern going forward because of the weak snow that lies below. 

Many avalanches throughout the road corridor where noted. Most apeared to have slid mid storm.
