Quick report
We traveled up an existing track through Bardini canyon, departing at 830 am. Ski poles plunged nearly 80 cm on the lower sunny sections near warming rocks. Upon reaching 9k the snow had become noticably wind effected on the N face. We performed an ECT with a 120cm wide column, HS 100cm. ECTX. On the 35th wallop, a small fracture initiated at 85 cm extending only 10cm. Out of curiosity we sheared the column off with considerable effort, breaking on facets at 30cm. The pit profile consisted of 30cm of icy facets from the ground, to 3/4 finger up to 75cm, fist above there to nearly the surface ~98cm, and a wind skin on top. Our travel upward to the N summit consisted of about 10cm ski penetration when not traveling on wind board or wind blasted ridges. Skiing was predictable down to 9k on N NE aspects and exceptional back to the car.
