Quick report
Travel conditions were rough from lake level up to the ridges on nearly all aspects. Currently surface conditions range between breakable crusts, melt freeze crusts, stout wind slab, and an occasional few turns worth of facet pow in this area. I found an abundance of weak faceted snow on NW - E aspects. In most areas it was capped by a stout wind slab. Overall the snowpack showed very few signs of instability. I did pop a 3’ x 6’ pocket of wind drifted snow on a very steep slope dropping into the NE facing gullies off the top of South Peak. It did not leave a discernible crown line and slid on a firm crusty layer of snow. I had a few roller balls release from my skis around noon on a SEE slope with very thin coverage at about 11,400’. Scary warm for this time of year.
Avalanche
Intentionally popped a super small <D 1 wind slab on a steep NE aspect at ~11,300’. Failed on faceted snow.
