Observation: Dry Fork of AF

Dug a pit in the upper part of Dry Fork saddle just south of the top of the Supreme chair. North East facing at 10,400 feet.

I found a 70 cm strong pencil to one finger hard slab resting upon 35 to 40 cm of dry weak 1-3 mm facets. Stability test were failing on weakest facets just under the slab. Compression test failed at 1 and 2 taps from the elbow. Extended Column test were ECTP12 and ECTP15 respectively. The snow surface was a mix of pockets of soft wind drift, wind board which lots of old ski and snowmobile tracks. With the additional weight of the predicted storm snow and wind loading over Christmas the slab will get re-energized and the hazard rating will increase significantly.
