Avalanche: Bonkers

Huge glide release in upper bonkers on the rock slabs. The debris ran across the preexisting skinner at the flat bottom of bonkers. This was a D2+ avalanche with industrial fridge-sized blocks of snow and ice. I suspect getting tangled up in that slide would have been unsurvivable. Some of the debris blocks had full pieces of rock slab still attached-what a force!

There was no new snow on the debris so it must have run after snow had concluded yesterday. Temperatures were mild bordering on quite cold yesterday so I don't suspect this was due to heating during the day. Unfortunately the more we discussed it, the more we concluded that it was unpredictable as glides tend to be.

We performed beacon searches along the debris pile which yielded no results fortunately. There was a truck at the s turns prior to our early morning arrival so we wanted to make sure there wasn't a past-due skier or boarder out in broads still. The truck was gone when we arrived back to the car - must have been a die hard winter runner on a 4am trip to Lake Blanche.
