Coal Creek

Checked out a south facing aspect at 9,800'.  HS = 82 cm. Most layers were moist with the exception of the facets at the November/December interface which just couldn't quite make a snowball. Rounding and bonding was observed in all faceted layers. ECT X. The column failed but did not propagate at the November drought interface after beating on it repeatedly post test taps. Interestingly, the whole column tipped over breaking on facets near the ground when pulled on with the shovel after the test. This is different than most ECTs I've seen recently which have sheared at the November drought interface. Overall, encouraging results from this south facing pit, but it's just one observation in a sea of snow.

Noticed an old avalanche on the Mesquite Face of Taylor. The avlanche likely occured on 12/8 (the same day that the east face slid).
