The stout near-surface crust is bridging deeper buried weak layers. But with the impending atmospheric river event the widespread crust will become a good bed surface for avalanches in the near future.

Mostly overcast with bursts of snow followed by glimpses of sun. Light winds from SW with moderate gusts.
Snowpack
We found 2 to 6 inches of soft new snow sitting over a stout crust from weekend rain that bridges everything: bullet hard at 5000' to slightly softer at 6400'. Below that the same basic snowpack structure we have been seeing for the past month and a half still exists. In a pit at 5800'on N aspect we found both the Valentines Day and 1/28 surface hoar layers intact, although the lower layer shows more signs of decomposing. At 6400' on E aspect we found V--day surface hoar about 50cm from surface, but the 1/28 layer has metamorphized into a weak 4F facet layer.
