Our intent was to ski a slide path lookers left of the Cog, roughly half way between the Waumbek Station and Jacob's ladder. On our approach we observed apx 4" of light snow that had fallen the night before, much of which had collected on the northern side of the trail. When at the top of the slide path, at apx 3800 feet, NW aspect, we produced several hand shear tests. When conducting the test, the snowpack exhibited unconsolidated, low-density snow that failed under moderate force without producing distinct failure planes or clean shear surfaces. The material displayed progressive fracturing rather than slab-like failure behavior. We skied the our intended line multiple times, and found the snow to be stable, and the depth to be variable, with much of the recent snow continuing to be consolidated on the northern side of the line.
