Quick report
We started our tour from Paradise ski run and then dropped into Jenny Bowl from 7100 feet on a NE facing aspect in the thick trees. The snow quality here was poor: mostly breakable crust between 7100 feet to Jenny Lake at 6800. We then toured across the lake and up the low-angle, SE ridge above Jenny Bowl, stopping to dig a hasty pit on a South facing aspect. We found a total snow depth of 110-125cm in this area, and observed 1 inch of new snow on top of a crust of various thickness. We found this crust to be between 1 inch to 3 inches thick in this area. It was NOT stout enough to support our weight consistently. Underneath this crust, we found the remainder of the snowpack was very wet snow that had not refrozen. This area of Jenny Bowl skied decently (dust-on-crust feel) but did not inspire confidence to step into avalanche terrain on South facing aspects. We continued our tour up to the top of "Too-Steep-to-Tele" and dug a second pit on a NE aspect at 7800 feet. Total snow depth in this area was greater than 230cm. It was significantly colder in this area than anywhere else we toured on this day. We found 1 inch of new snow on top of a very Stout, supportable 6-8 inch crust, underneath the crust was consolidated snow (significantly drier than in our South pit). We did not get any significant results in our extended column test here. We elected to ski this run 1 at a time. Skiing conditions were quite good. There was a very small amount of old frozen debris that was covered/obscured by the new snow, 2/3 of the way down this run. We had to get a little creative to pick through this section, but overall not too difficult. **I did bring and use ski crampons on Paradise, it was pretty darn icy in the morning.***
